The folks at Joseph Carr live for Cab. It is their passion and it is their signature. They approach their winemaking with the spirit of the Bordelais, making a Cab in the style of a Left Blank blend with some Napa flair. Their 2007 Napa Cab is predominantly from Oakville, with smaller proportions sourced from St. Helena, Pritchard Hill, Carneros and Red HIlls. The vintage includes 10% each Merlot and Cabernet Franc for a wine thats remarkably complex for its modest price point. The color of Royal velvet, it gives aromas of saddle leather, smoke and black currants. Theres plenty of upfront dark cherry fruit on the attack, opening up on the palate to reveal layers of black plum dusted with vanilla beans and cocoa powder. Firm tannins frame the wine, but dont overpower it, and it lingers sweetly on the finish.
